  1. Not really surprised to see a young player recklessly throwing a racquet given what older players do and get away with. It hit the ballperson so Coria was completely valid in arguing that it should have been a default.

  2. Really, really high class performance from Naomi Osaka who easily beat Angie Kerber 6-2 6-3 in Miami. Kerber offered little, but Osaka served well and was hitting so cleanly off both wings. Osaka's first top 15 win (and opponent) since she won the '21 Australian Open.

Wrote about Ash Barty's retirement. As shocking as it is to see the world number one player retire at 25 after just winning a slam, it's not that surprising upon reflection. Barty has been nothing but consistent with her approach over the past few years.

One of the challenges of being a top tennis player, aside from actually playing the sport, is being an actual employer and making significant personnel decisions from such a young age. Spoke with a group of players about how they have handled it.

Barty: "I know I have done this before but in a very different feeling and I'm so grateful to everything that tennis has given me. It's given me all of my dreams, plus more. But I know that the time is right now for me to step away, chase other dreams and to put the racket down."

Ash Barty announced her retirement in an interview with her best friend Casey Dellacqua, who helped her back into the sport: "I'm so happy and I'm so ready and I just know, at the moment, in my heart, for me as a person this is right."

I don't know how anyone can call Indian Wells "tennis paradise" with a straight face when even putting the ball over the net is an ordeal in these conditions.

First thing I saw when I turned on a stream was Rublev smiling after missing a drive volley at 5=6 40-30 and it was very confusing. Rublev trying to break his strings with his bare knuckles after losing the set somehow felt like a return to normalcy.

Winning a slam before playing a professional match on any type of clay court at any level... it still makes no sense.

Emma Raducanu will play in Great Britain's Billie Jean King Cup tie against Czech Republic next month. It would be both her BJK Cup debut and her professional (!!!) clay court debut against arguably the strongest team in the world. A young team with Dart, Swan and 20yo Kartal.
