If an org wants to remain agnostic, you don't want any obvious favoritism. Just buy the bare minimum.
I wonder if Marketing folks get this was part of their education?

I am not sure I agree. At a minimum, the marketing dept should set standards (in consultation with Org).
As an industry, we sell to companies/education institutions that have a 10th of the revenue of Avixa, CEDIA, NSCA, etc.
