I agree. I expect AI to be different in that it will kill everyone on Earth and replace them with nothing of worth from even a very cosmopolitan standpoint on what is worthwhile.

all of this is with an asterisk that we are going to solve alignment in the limited sense of not destroying all further human value, which I believe with high probability will be a much easier problem in practice than you expect

The complete devaluation of human endeavor isn’t an upside. At some point, we will render ourselves utterly useless. The pitchforks will come first, then the gallows. By then it won’t matter. We’ve seen this movie before.
