The private companies listed there are large enough they have a stable 409a, often with buy-back programs. It's pretty easy to compare apples-to-apples for companies of that size, regardless of private/public.

However, I thought the user entered total comp listed was just an aside to the more interesting correlation, how levels line up via job competencies and overall % of people in each category.

It's missing principle, but otherwise Aligns pretty well from competencies and % of employee breakdown.
