    Our department is getting renovated, so I cleared out my office today. Having been on leave for >6 years, the office was essentially a time capsule of 2012 me. Some interesting reminders/discoveries that are concordant or dissonant with what happened since. 1/

    This finding is so important. For decades psychologists have told people to remain objective in the “control” condition of empathy studies. It turns out our default is more like the “empathy” condition, and the unusual experience is to artificially *not* empathize!
