    i always love these takes. same for george washington. he owned people, but like, he wasn't mean about it. lee inherited slaves like you'd inherit a tea seat from your grandma, its not like he owned human beings. well, except that he owned human beings.

    Fact. Robert E. Lee had slaves which were inherited with his land. He was not a "brutal slave master" and in 1862 released all of his slaves. Long before many in the North, including Grant. Lee stayed with South because of love for Virginia.
