One of the things I find the most darkly amusing is the fact that academics have "Nuh-uh!" / "Oh yeah!" conversations via articles in research journals.

I think it’s hard because we all agree we need stronger consequences for structural abuse. Often, abusers expect forgiveness without the work. Mark Halperin is a great example. But some people do deserve forgiveness and redemption and it’s worth talking about how.

Over 100 Gamergaters have written me over the year asking for forgiveness, and I’ve thanked them and forgiven them every single time. If I can understand people can grow past their worst moments, I think the rest of us can too. We need a conversation about redemption in America.

Sebastian Vettel was called to the stewards for wearing this t-shirt during the national anthem at the Hungarian GP on Sunday. His response: "I'm happy if they disqualify me. They can do whatever they want to me, I don't care. I would do it again." 🏳️‍🌈 ✊

This is both the title for a woman's obit from 2012 and inspiration for my next TTRPG character.

Seeing the joy being shared among Hmong Americans & such widespread support from other AAPI & communities of color for 's historic win has been a balm to my cranky cynical heart today.

Tomorrow is the 100 year anniversary of the discovery of insulin. In 1921, insulin’s discoverers sold its patent for $1 so insulin would be affordable to all. Today, a single vial of insulin that lasts me about a week is priced at $300+, only in the United States.

Does no one else thinks we live in an absolutely bizarre timeline where the US DOJ seizes the tablets of Epic of Gilgamesh from Hobby Lobby while selling off Wu-Tang Clan's "Once Upon a Time In Shaolin"?

First non-research-related article I'm going to read once I get done with my biggest assignment from this summer is this one. I hope the results are promising:

Every year I retweet this piece on how to spot drowning. Last year someone replied saying they’d read my RT the previous year and later rescued a kid. TL;DR: drowning kids usually don’t scream or splash about.

“Aren’t public or visible to the author, but tell Twitter what is valuable conversation…” And then what? What do you plan to do with conversation that has quietly been tagged “not valuable?” The abuse potential of this is… large.

If you wanted to make a city in which every mundane aspect of life was lived in the most Jack Kirby way imaginable, you'd start by erecting giant statues called The Guardians of Traffic, and having them look like this. And then you'd name the city's baseball team after them.
