Started using it to pass a bully colleague in a blaze of glory who, for years, insisted on using Windows Notepad (yes, that one!) for everything! He's long gone now. :)

One day I noticed that
@ykameshrao is the only person in the company to not use Eclipse, so got curious about his rebellion. That was 9 years ago and I never looked back since.https://twitter.com/kedarjoshi/status/97906683967307776?s=20 … -
It’s been 9 years! Wow!

I switched in 2008 after struggling with multimodule Maven project in Eclipse that was getting lost all the time and.
@intellijidea it just worked out of the box. Since then anywhere I work I show to my colleagues IDEA features, to the point some of them joked I'm paid for it

Switched from Eclipse to IntelliJ in 2014 because
@motlin ,@TheDonRaab introduced me to it while contributing to GS Collections now called as#eclipse collections... introduced it to my team after I used it... none of us switched back! 1/2 -
Intuitive shortcuts, Live Templates, custom color schemes (special thanks to
@Motlin for his awesome color scheme), and fair triaging of bugs make the experience even better! 2/2

I have maintained a copy of IntelliJ since 2002 when - on windows at least - you could unpin the panels and they’d float (transparently) on top of other operating system artifacts. Amazing! It’s just gotten better and better every release and I am also now a big PyCharm fan, too.

I switched from Eclipse in 2006-7 because of its superior Maven support. I stuck with it in 2008+ because of its excellent support for HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, which I started coding in a lot more.

Out of pure curiosity, and it just felt right. 3 years and counting. It feels like a high school love story turned into a mature marriage.

Ha ha.. that’s a lovely analogy! All the best to you.
