Game dev, ex-Oculus/PopCap/Bungie: Toybox, Bogo, First Steps/Contact, PvZ2); I try to ride a bike fast. My secret: I'm always hangry. Politics left of the dial.
I’m using a withings smart scale to track weight, it does a body fat percentage. Since I’ve hit race weight, it’s ~9-10%. Joined a training gym, their nutrition consult InBody body fat analysis. 25.6%! I think I’m somewhere in between but closer to 10%. This seems crazy variance.
in specific releases of pvz there is a ridiculously rare chance for a zombie to just straight up have a nut allergy and die from eating a wall/tall-nut twitter.com/SuperPodSaga/s…
mind boggling that a chuck roast, onions, garlic, thyme, red wine and beef broth in a le creuset and maillard reaction could make something so delicious with so little effort. trivial prep+time.
group ride to do 12min tempo efforts. gave me ppl to chase, recover, chase again. much better than looking at a number. but what surprised me was the genuine camaraderie of a virtual group ride with people cheering on others who worked hard just to hang on.
8/ not to say the invention of paper isnt a groundbreaking technological feat, but why we - historians, readers, consumers, creators - care is what paper unlocks creative people to achieve
6/ the reason why a lot of companies default to these superficial designs is the same reason why they think chess is a great XR game - it avoids the high risk, unpredictable, creative endeavor of designing a complex system that needs to spark joy and emotional investment.
5/ a theme park is an often-used metaphor for these spaces. i dont think so because they're a novelty and diversion (and implied scarcity) in the end; they don't provide an ongoing sense of 'progress' and growth.
4/ most of us are not makers; those of us who are, have a deep and complex relationship with consumers. a world full of makers needs a 10x larger world of consumers, and a reason why they should care about each other, and ways to express it.
3/n we're signed to play and work, with incentives, rewards and shared context, deriving implicit goals from explicit ones. it's complex, messy and ... a game.
2/n the thing that virtual social spaces risk missing out on, is that in a rush to disrupt real world spaces, is that all human cognition is build on rules assumptions - gameplay loops that we have evolved around to survive and thrive.
Sorry to hear that AltspaceVR is closing. Context-less social spaces remind me of this performance art piece, planted in my head by former coworker game designer
account is borked on the backend, prob bc of my layoff. I can create a new Meta acct that lets me buy apps, etc., in the interim yes? Need this for a project I'm working on.
She’ll delicately try and pull a sock off my foot, too. Only time she’s broken skin? Pawing me with her front feet when she was so excited she couldn’t quite stay planted. Pretty sure she could crunch right thru my wrist.
Surprised how much control my pup has over her mouth; we think she’s part malinois, who are mouthy. She growls and runs after me in the yard, leaping to put her teeth around my wrist/forearm, just so I barely feel it. Same with my pants cuffs.
Honestly even I think it’s weird how much I love cell culture. It’s just awesome to be able to cultivate a living thing, in a dish, for multiple days .

felt surprisingly tired after 3hr z2 rain ride yesterday; last week my vacation walks+'surprise' indoor class vo2 rides==high TP fatigue. Red whoop recovery last nite. On-bike strength+body weight strength session today. Rest day tomo! Wavering on executing today's plan.
In solidarity w my Cali riding buddies, I pedaled a few hrs in nonstop light rain (that’s what weatherunderground called it). What’s the difference between drizzle, showers and light rain? Only wardrobe regret was not wearing those Giro waterproof gloves
I think Iv ranted about this before but I need to rant again so here we go. A thread…
Richie has been officially retired for 8 days and I’m already tired of seeing/hearing comments about his weight/size.
this reminds me of the power of asking clarifying questions before you impose your own value judgment on it. asked properly and understanding the audience, you won't need to editorialize.
I’ve never seen this clip before, but this exemplifies why Barbara Walters is considered a journalistic icon. For journalists, it isn’t about your question soundingtough. It’s about getting the subject to expose something about themselves — good or bad. twitter.com/DonLew87/statu…
Movie has been made from one of my favorite books of the time - Don DeLillo's White Noise. All I remember I loved the book, but been 30+ years since I read it. I hope the movie's good. Looking forward to watching the screener but I bet it'll be heavy and dense and twisty.
was so hard I almost got nauseous. Haven’t spent that much time at VO2max since the summer. But leg speed felt great and ran into two of the riders I met in the area last summer!
Wanted to dust off these “Farlands” pieces and do an art blast as it was from such a fun project. The game was for the release of the Oculus Rift and was created by a small team under such a tight deadline. First off, the hero image from
