S.C. absentee ballot received by a voter after SCOTUS ruling Monday that witness signatures *are* required. Seems likely to lead to many discarded votes.

S.C. does not have a process for notifying voters of a missing signature to allow them to ‘cure’ a discarded ballot. lwv.org/newsroom/press

The arguments in the case:
-S.C.: witnesses are needed in case we need to investigate ballot fraud.
-lower court: But fraud is nearly non existent, so denied
-Justice Kavanaugh for SCOTUS: overruled, bc voting rules shouldn’t be changed this close to an election.

SC does not have partisan voter registration but does provide statistics by race. As of Friday, Black voters requested 28% of mail ballots and led all groups in the rate of returns.

I spoke to SC's Dem chair, Trav Robertson, about this. He said he's aware of several counties where this is a problem: Richland, Georgetown and a couple of others. "It's going to be a problem,'' he said. "We're trying to figure out a way for a cure.''

"We're also trying to undertake a massive voter education program,'' Robertson said. He added that historically, SC began requiring witness signatures "to prevent white people from helping African Americans to cast votes.''

America sure is messed up... I remember years where America was complaining about other countries screwed up election methods! Just Great, America!

Or they could just vote in person now. I'm going to have zero compassion for all the votes lost b/c of mail issues and requirements. You all should have know better than to push that garbage.
