I mean, I stopped using Medium too, but I'm not seeing the author's point here. "the internet should be free" is like saying "you should code for passion" and not want money. medium provides distribution, writers produce content. why shouldn't people want monetization w/o ads?

I wish I still liked Medium. It's a joke now. Much as I hated the manual work of fixing broken plugins on WordPress, I'm actually missing my old domain.
