Ed Yong’s body of work on the pandemic is the kind of thing historians will cite and future populations will point to as they ask “How could this have been?” It’s vivid, detailed, unflinching, and deeply, deeply humane.

I've seen many people link to this and thought, well I'm sure it's good, I'll watch it eventually. What I didn't realize is HOW GREAT it is. is just alarmingly effective at parsing and explaining the stupidity of moral panics

Bill Maher treating David Mamet like the "premier" man of letters in America, a combination "Oscar Wilde" and Godlike sage, is my "Twilight Zone" episode for the night.

Is it the updo? The lip shade? The whole eyebrow/shadow/liner treatment? Not sure which, or maybe it’s all of them together, but Tricia Helfer was out there serving some serious Jane Fonda in this ‘Lucifer’ episode.

It seems to me that casual mockery of gay people and their families is on the rise among the conservative media figures whose job is to restore a cultural environment in which anti-gay legislation is deemed acceptable. We are backsliding on gay rights with truly shocking speed.

This lavish artifact — four, I said *four* LPs in its original release — remains one of the most demented things ever committed to recording. A few absurdities aside (Miss Mary Leontyne should have taken a pass on ‘In questa reggia’), it is pure glory.
