Taking an IV injection for four days and the nurse has missed my veins twice. Me that have prominent veins, is this what patients suffer? 😭😭😭

In my teaching hospital, Nurses don't give IV. Medications. Only doctors do.

In every teaching hospital, FMC, and General hospital where they have enough doctors it's like that. Not smaller private hospitals where only one doctor is on duty at a time, unless you want that doctor to die before their time lol, OR the line has potential to be difficult

So, you are saying that it is primarily the job of the doctor to administer I.V. drugs?? Is this standard best practice all over the world??

Yes it's a doctor procedure to give IV. IM wound dressing, taking delivery, circumcision and the likes are nursing procedures. But you know Nigeria na, doctor will dabble into nursing stuff and vice versa

Okay... Thanks for clearing that up. The Nigerian way is still better for Nigeria sha... The more medically trained back ups to doctors we have, the less people fall into the hands of outright quacks and traditional...

Yes, sometimes in these teaching hospitals at 3 AM when you're asleep, patients line can tissue. If the nurse likes you, they'll set it themselves but if NOT, they'll knock on your door o 😂 😭

Hey, I’m studying nursing currently, all the procedures you mentioned earlier are being done by nurses. I mean we even have to study these procedures and practice in the hospital along with our supervisors. I think you might be missing up Practical nursing and Registered nursing.

Nahh I don't think so. I think its primarily their main duty. Then Doctors help. Mainly bc of the risk associated with IV. I feel a good qualified nurse should be able to administer through any route
