    One of my favorite events of the year is our grad-student organized EEB symposium. We had great alumna and keynote speakers: Stacy Lindshield talking about savannah chimpanzees and about rates of evolution and physiology in lizards and island patterns of evolution!

    Just got an email that that I was yet again not invited to serve on an NSF panel. I've never served on a panel and I've heard the experience of serving on a panel is invaluable. I'm sure it's a matter of time but it seems like it'd be nice to get that experience earlier.

    I know I'm not the only person wondering about best practices for data review (for papers from our own labs or on which we're authors). Suggestions welcome!

    Having been involved in this process since Dec 17, I can confirm that (and some others I am not yet open to naming) have done a phenomenal amount of sorting through raw data. The odd patterns are not blatant at first.

    Now that we are all back, I thought I would re-circulate this to see if there are any other great ideas out there. So far, replies have emphasized streamlining teaching, integrating research into teaching, Summer Research Programs, and course releases for grant writing/reserach.

    I am on a committee researching best practices for supporting faculty research at PUIs & other institutions with high teaching loads. If you fall in that group, what does your institution do that faciliates your research (or what do you wish they would do)?
