Just a reminder that the US concept of "manliness" was invented in the early 1900s to sell razors, beer and movie tickets. It is not some ancient practice. It is a creation of ad execs.

The word "manliness" is a dog whistle, not an ideal. Have a great day!

Pink was considered a strong color for men but then Hitler used it to codify gay men in concentration camps and it was seen as feminine afterwards.

interesting... looking back, yeah. this is extremely accurate. only thing im having trouble finding confirmation on is the color pink, but its largely because all photos are various shades of sepia...

Those symbolized wealth and aristocracy. Arms and armor, horsemanship, plain old brawn are probably more tied to an old definition of 'manliness' than those you listed.

Arms, armour, and in particular horsemanship predominantly signified wealth as well, and were markers of a landowning class well into the modern era. The point isn't that historical people didn't have a vision of masculinity, but that the vision is not stable through time.
