    There are exceptions of course and what I'm saying especially applies to infrastructure/backend engineers but it still applies to most other roles.

    For almost 20 years now Google (and other big cloud co's) engineers have been heavily sought by startups, but this hasn't made sense for the past 10 years. Those early engineers who started at the ground level are either long gone or never leaving.

    Hiring tip for startups: hire people who've made built startups – they have more practice than the Googler you're recruiting who hasn't seen, let alone built a project from the ground up.

    Made a Terraform provider for managing Kafka topics –> Uses the new Kafka admin APIs rather than the shell scripts. Supports adding partitions and altering configs.

    Planning to write a book for mid-level Go programmers, it'd go over building a real-world project (or multiple if room) from start-to-finish. What project do you want to see? Couple ideas: Distributed commit log, k8s operator, maybe Terraform provider – what are other good ones?

    Lots of cool Kafka/Jocko tools can be built on Jocko's protocol lib and other internals. I've had a pluggable Kafka proxy on my mind for a while...
