Breathtaking sloppiness and incoherence of thought 1. Declining to publish something is not “suppressing” it 2. But if it is, then NYT will “suppress” countless people who would like to rebut Cotton. 3. NYT can inform public of how Cotton thinks without running his op-ed

Let's be clear about what happened this week at the White House. The photo-op Trump wanted was not just of himself holding a Bible—he wanted footage of Americans who disagree with him being scattered, of violence pushed upon them. That's the photo-op he wanted.

I'm not too bothered the hate mail that's been pouring in re: Rex rebuttal, because there are an equal number of people who have been so inspired and feel mobilized by the piece, but to prove my point that racism is rife in Canada, this is some of the nonsense I'm getting:

I don't know if Canadians outside of Nova Scotia know about this. I don't even know if all Nova Scotians know it. Learn about Canada's own racist history. WE ARE NOT SPECIAL AND IT'S NOT ONLY IN THE PAST. CANADA HAS ITS OWN OWN ANTI-RACISM WORK TO DO.

George Floyd and I were both arrested for allegedly spending a counterfeit $20 bill. For George Floyd, a man my age, with two kids, it was a death sentence. For me, it is a story I sometimes tell at parties. That, my friends, is White privilege.

I think the thing that gets me the most with all of this is how enthusiastically some people are embracing creeping authoritarianism and a literal police state.

I don't know why people keep asking "can Trump do that." IF THE MEN WITH GUNS LISTEN TO HIM, HE CAN DO ANYTHING HE WANTS. Christ. Americans are so ignorant sometimes, y'all acting like you don't even know how AUTHORITARIANISM works.

David McAtee, the owner of YaYa's BBQ in western Louisville, was shot and killed by law enforcement early Monday morning. His mother and nephew said that he was known to feed police as well. The two said he would give law enforcement officers free meals.

I worry that the bad guys have already successfully shifted the discussion to "Is it morally okay to destroy a Target store in a protest?" It doesn't even matter where we land in that discussion, just the fact that we're focusing on the right/wrong way to protest means they win.

A hell of a lot of journalists across the country were targeted by police tonight, despite reportedly identifying themselves as such. We need to have a talk about this.
