I’ve seen a lot of talk about how Ali Alexander and the 8chan guy are back on the platform recently, but we also get this Canadian white nationalist, a British white nationalist, a pro-Russia pedophile, and the Mother Teresa of our Time.

Idk man speaking as an opinion manipulator I don’t think I’m going to have much trouble raising $100 / month to continue to manipulate opinions

Replying to @BillyM2k and @ericnakagawa
Yeah, free API is being abused badly right now by bot scammers & opinion manipulators. There’s no verification process or cost, so easy to spin up 100k bots to do bad things. Just ~$100/month for API access with ID verification will clean things up greatly.

Is it justified to give a fascist a small amount of money in order to show what a failure that fascist is in a way that’s likely to cost the fascist a larger amount of money?

To be clear: 269k is how many current subscribers we’ve identified, not an estimate of the total number. In the first round we found ~95% of the total with this approach (according to info from an internal source), so I’d guess not much more than 300k.

I know it doesn’t really matter whether a fascist billionaire is competent or not, but it’s still very satisfying to watch this one fuck up yet another of his pet projects this badly.

To the people saying “but I follow hate accounts to track them”: 1) your follow is amplifying the account, and 2) if your ability to monitor an account depends on them not blocking you, at the very least that’s likely to skew whatever research you’re trying to do.

It’s not betsy ross dril or even Neal, from Law School dril but I’ve thought about it a lot and this is the best dril tweet since 2012

I feel like we need more open, community-driven ways to track (and target) companies and organizations who are still advertising here. If even a few dozen people were willing to submit anonymized data, we could probably start to build something useful.

Marketing aimed at software developers has always been embarrassing, but with the industry downturn it’s about to get so much worse. Yet another example of Scala being ahead of its time.

“Our Southern-heritage-flavored tech conference teaser tweet was a hit — almost 10 retweets. So what do we do next?” “How about a dude almost in silhouette who looks like he’s sunning his package while throwing a Hitler salute” “Ship it”

Personally if I wanted to reboot a conference that was best known for platforming a slavery apologist I would make the announcement NOT sound like the fucking Lost Cause of the Confederacy

Updated this repo with data for the week: 24k newly identified subscribers, just under 10k lost (either due to unsubscription or Twitter action), and 9.6k returning (observed as Blue, then not Blue, and now Blue again).
Quote Tweet
Did some digging this weekend and found 225k current @TwitterBlue subscribers. I’d guess the total is well under 300k. It’s been relaunched for a month and @elonmusk hasn’t even doubled the (already very weak) first round. github.com/travisbrown/bl

Hmm. I’ve been blocked by a Rust conference for quoting the president of the NAACP saying that buying ads from Elon Musk is immoral and destructive 🦀🤷‍♂️🦀

Some previously banned UK folks that this platform has welcomed back recently: anti-Semitic conspiracy theorist David Icke, white nationalist Tommy Robinson, transphobe Graham Linehan, and Gamergate YouTuber Carl Benjamin.

I had seen people talking about and was interested, until this morning, when I saw a promoted tweet from them in my feed. Don’t support organizations that are paying Twitter for ads in 2023.
Quote Tweet
It is immoral, dangerous, and highly destructive to our democracy for any advertiser to fund a platform that fuels hate speech, election denialism and conspiracy theories. Until actions are taken to make this a safe space, we call on companies to pause all advertising on Twitter.

I have some stuff running on the API and haven’t seen anything like this. Some endpoints are giving rate limit errors in the US when the rate limit hasn’t been violated, but are working as usual from Germany. A few 401s that don’t make sense. Just seems kind of randomly broken.
Quote Tweet
Twitter is enforcing its long-standing API rules. That may result in some apps not working.

For the record I think this probably isn’t an intentional “South will rise again” reference. It’s just generic goofy ass fashy bravado, like everything this dude does
Quote Tweet
Unrelated to anything, there’s the vaporwave fash aesthetic, and then there’s the this-is-sparta fash aesthetic, and I don’t know whether it’s good or bad that the Scala community picked the shittier one

The most dogshit worthless things Twitter has ever implemented (NFT avatars, Blue verification) are at least available in the API via undocumented parameters. They could have done the same for affiliations.
