Rich people look at fines as user fees, making them more likely to break the law because they aren't high enough. Finland has fines proportional to one's income b/c of this, so someone who is poor may pay hundreds while a rich person might pay thousands for the same offense.

This is true of all the crimes rich people comitt. The fine is never large enough to discourage that behavior in the future.

From last year: Hfx drivers are mostly good along my cycling route. Most bus drivers are good. Pick up trucks and higher end cars are the worst at buzzing by too close. Trucks are wider so I give them the benefit of the doubt. High end drivers seem to have a sense of entitlement.

Researchers should do a similar study in Alberta with drivers in F-150s and Dodge Rams. In Edmonton, where I live, lots of bad drivers in those trucks.

I blame systems which see such behaviour and then excuse it due to the unfortunate truth that almost everyone aspires to be that 'rich' person who 'gets away' with such behaviour. We are programmed to believe this is how 'winners' behave.
