    I've (more or less) finished a map I've been chipping away at, depicting the rapid transit services of NYC in the late 1930s before they started to take down the elevated lines. Will probably keep tweaking it but thought it was time to post.

    With Muni's close stop spacing, I just transferred among three different bus routes within a distance of 0.4 miles, and miraculously each subsequent bus managed to appear within about 20 seconds of my arrival at the transfer stop.

    I’ve been riding SF streets for 35 years and until this week I would avoid riding Market at all costs. Twice now this week I’ve gone out of my way to ride it. Just amazing transformation.

    One of my favorite things about turning a street like Market (mostly) car-free is how it has retained or even enhanced its liveliness despite exuding a new sense of calm and peace. That said, the intersections needs work to eliminate transit delays when cross traffic stacks up.

    It's exciting to think about ambitiously re-purposing parking spaces throughout the city (like plans in Paris)... until remembering the backlash against, e.g., removing like 30 parking spots to give two-car trains a transit bulb that matches the length of the train.
