All academic journals should be open-access. These corporations benefit in billions of USD provided to them by universities. Education should be free in all of its forms.

The U.S. government is directly responsible for his death. Like many digital rights activists and whistleblowers, the prosecutor seized on the opportunity to use his case to "send a message," bringing all the weight of the criminal (in)justice system on to him.

He was a prodigy that used his talents to make education accessible and free to all, and to challenge corporations that financially benefit from knowledge that should be public. His story always breaks my heart because these are cases that should be more well known.

We should not forget his name. His death is on the hands of law enforcement. He was literally trying to share knowledge with people who didn’t have access, and the cops made him feel like he didn’t have a future afterwards.

I was so surprised when I learned that I couldn’t access academic journals after I graduated — I was like how the fuck do I get access?? I couldn’t even do it through the public library. I’m 27 and just learned you could pay for a subscription to academic journals, like what?!
