Not at all. I got mine over with first. I put it in summer time with long days. So it would be light out when I was commuting and going home.

I did something similar. I was reasonably confident I wouldn’t be pursuing a surgical specialty so I used it as “practice” for other 3rd year rotations. In hindsight, getting 2 weeks of anesthesia at the end of the rotation was pretty beneficial:

Do you know what type of residency you want to pursue?

Wow that's brave. My first was a combo ID/Onc that was mostly outpatient with no residents above me, and was an excellent way to ease into it.

I was lotteried into 3 months of surgery as my first M3 rotations and it was NOT good. Surgery is better with a little IM context to at least help with medical management questions. Also, the hours destroy your soul. While good to do in summer months vs dark winter, still bad.

I mean, you’ll do what’s right for you, but that’s what I experienced for context.

Did OBGYN 1st for pretty much the same reason (I knew I wanted to do psych). My very first 2 weeks were night float from 5p-8 or 9am. After that, nothing seemed quite as bad.
