    This is how hard people had to work to get "justice" through this system. The verdict is a relief, but justice would be Black people existing without fear.

    This came from people speaking out & showing up. Remember we went 74 days without an arrest; this was never inevitable. Gratitude to all. To the runners, the activists, the preachers, the local citizens, all who said that his life mattered.

    A 62-year-old who spent more than 40 years behind bars for a crime he didn't commit was released today. Under Missouri law, Kevin Strickland is not entitled to housing, counseling, or one penny of compensation.

    BREAKING: A judge has granted Jackson County prosecutors’ motion to exonerate Kevin Strickland, 62, in a 1978 triple murder and ordered his immediate release, confirming that Strickland suffered one of the longest wrongful convictions in U.S. history.

    As a public defender, I represented literally hundreds of Black men & women accused of doing this. Most literally couldn’t afford $2.75 subway fare. Difference between eating/not. Arrested, caged, forced to plea to the crime of “theft of services.” But when you’re white & proud:

    I cannot help but recall that when was killed by police, he legally possessed his weapon. We did not hear *anything* about "the 2nd Amendment being alive and well." That should tell you all you need to know about what this was about.

    I am not surprised, at all, that White people have been deputized to hunt people down. America returns to its fundamentals, always.

    And he will continue to be praised and elevated by leaders in the Republican party for all of these reasons.

    A 17-year-old boy with a history of racism and extremism played fake cop with an illegal gun to antagonize protestors. He shoved a gun in their faces. He shot three protestors. He killed two of them. He lied about it after. He will not spend a day in jail because he’s white.
