    American exceptionalism = more maternal mortality than rest of the high-income world. Rising steadily since 2000, declining almost everywhere else

    A new report from the CDC found that maternal mortality rates continued to rise from 2019 to 2020, with racial disparities deepening. We urgently need largescale policy and systems changes to address these deep-seated inequities rooted in structural racism

    This excellent book draws on archives in a zillion places, and I can’t remember the last time I felt so moved by a history conclusion. Happy to see here!

    Just tried to explain this institutional death spiral to someone in Germany. Yes, someone who represents .5% of the population calls all the shots. “Democracy”

    US democracy totally broken when huge majorities support policies like paid leave, expanding healthcare, taxing wealthy, lowering prescription drug prices, protecting voting rights, gun control, etc & none of it becomes law b/c of undemocratic institutions & influence of big $
