It can. The patch image feature in Magisk Manager (that is introduced for I think over 2 years at this point) is specifically designed to support this scenario. In fact, flashing Magisk in custom recoveries is more headache for me to support.

The ONLY correct answer in 2020 is: read tutorials on your device's XDA forum along with Magisk's official installation instructions. If you cannot understand the instructions, you are better living without root. STOP . USING . ONE-CLICK-ROOT . SHITWARE

I got bored and searched for "Android root" on Google via incognito mode, and this page is the top "non-ad" result: Man, not only does it nowhere mentions Magisk, it recommends people to use crapware "Kingo Root" 🤦‍♂️ Seriously, WTF ?

For public free Wi-Fi, this is impressive!

Woot, I think this is the first time I have ever received an OTA notification on any Pixel device. Restore images → Install OTA → Install Magisk on the other slot → Reboot with Magisk installed Slick AF

Support for genfscon rules is added to magiskpolicy! This involves diving deep into libsepol source code (because of course there is absolutely no documentation regarding the sepolicy binary format) and using an internal API that are not meant to be used. Pretty fun stuff 🤣

Well, Magisk IS possible to run without patching boot image 🙄. Just check my documents and for some insight on how it can be achieved. I just never provided a complete simple non-systemless package. But well, if SuperSU works for them, then great LOL

I kept my HTC M8 running on KitKat for development reasons, and I'm glad to say that pre 5.0 is getting more and more difficult to live on as almost all major apps moves to 5.0+ only in their latest versions. I guess 6 years is long enough 😁

    I found a bug in Android's Framework . . . . on Android 4.2 🤦‍♂️

BTW, the exact same optimized bytecode behaves differently when the APK has debug flag enabled or not, which affects Android runtime's optimization. What a bizarre bug 🙄

Debugging the issue of Magisk Manager hiding not working on release canary builds, turns out the R8 optimizer nuked the random package routine in the bytecode......

Not exactly the best advertisement for a fingerprint scanner. 😬 Fingerprint scanners: Works great even during the outbreak of an airborne virus!

Everyone is wearing masks due to the Coronavirus, and I found out one issue... I can no longer unlock my Pixel 4 XL because my face is masked 😅. Now I miss fingerprint scanners.

The app will no longer be actively maintained by me very soon. This is taking over all the UI code and rewrite it from scratch. This redesign won't go to public without full approval from me, and I am a functionality over aesthetics guy 😉

Also for those who ask to keep the old design as an option: no it won't happen. Due to technical reasons we cannot have 2 completely different components in the app (at least without significant effort). Also, we do not have the man power to maintain 2 completely different UIs.

For those asking for external theming (e.g. Substratum), no it is not possible. If something external can theme Magisk Manager, doesn't that also mean external apps can detect it? The way styles are setup in the redesign is modular, any themer can upstream their theme to Magisk.

After about half a day, opinions floods in, and man it is polarizing LOL. I am well aware of some usability issues in the current UI, and will definitely let know and fix them. As stated, this is not the final design, I'm just first testing functionality in canary 😃
