teacher here. yes, this is part of our training now. also how to use weapons (no guns or knives) against an intruder: throw books, desks, ANYTHING HEAVY, how to barricade a door, how to keep kids calm, etc. We dedicate a full day to this training.

This is where we’re heading: only those who are willing to be armed in the classroom will become educators furthering the dumbing down of a once proud profession.

OMG. I am a teacher and this is horrifying. One of the reasons I didn't go into nursing is I'm not a fan of blood. Now in addition to being a counselor, extra parent, cheerleader, teacher, etc, I have to be a cop and a nurse too?

Thank you for your service.
I have 1 kiddo left who’s a jr in HS. It’s sad and sickening the difference since our oldest entered HS 13yrs ago. Even friends who teach at elem level are talking about getting out/retiring early.

The objection is that we're training teachers and students on what to do in case of a shooting instead of tackling the real problem - guns. It's as if the US has decided that school shootings are inevitable and acceptable, as long as it's someone else's kids.
