Galileo had already observed Neptune on 1612-12-28. Anyway, this would make the first observation of Neptune earlier than the first observation of Uranus by Flamsteed on 1690-12-23... except if Hipparcus really saw Uranus in 128BC!

Uranus wouldn't be a tough unaided eye catch. Once I spotted it under dark skies it wasn't hard to find it again. Since then, I've often wondered why it wasn't discovered sooner.
