I have a lot of thoughts about Hamilton and the way it idealizes the founders, and how such a brilliant musical dangerously elides they realities of slavery but Leslie Odom Jr. put his FOOT in that performance. So talented.

Vox article says it all. Founding Fathers are not idealized in the musical. Hamilton reclaimed the musical for those who haven’t had power... well written article. Very nuanced- nails it.

I don't think this fanfiction defense addresses people's concerns with Hamilton. If anything it makes it worse. To equate fiction canon with historical canon is so irresponsible because millions of people actually suffered and died. It's so dismissive.
-
Fanfiction was created so marginalized people could see themselves and their stories in fiction. There were actual marginalized people alive in history who had actual stories and were actually being oppressed by the people Miranda is fictionalizing about.
