A large amount of psychology is bad because psychologists work from the literature backwards. They should really start with their own life experiences and work forwards to experiments to generalise these observations. The same goes for treatments. What makes them feel depressed?
A good psychologist would be someone with a clear knowledge of why they broke up with person X, how they felt when their Dad died etc. Instead, they work back from “facts” based on unreproducable experiments largely conducted on US college students.

They then try to fit these “scientific facts” and techniques onto a patient. Probably useless in many cultural backgrounds, completely meaningless. Short answer: your granny is probably the best psychologist around, skip the rest.
