Oxbridge & public schools train people to make statements in such a way as to insinuate they are correct without showing their working. Christopher Hitchens was good at this...they drop a quote with a certain inflexion...it’s obvious any well-educated person would agree...is it?
Really they don’t know themselves. It’s just the “right sort” think this way, and they know the “right sort”. It’s a substitute for thought. Niall Ferguson is another one like this. People are impressed, “Well, they seem so sure this is right. It must be.”
