Check out @BrentToderian who has made an impact in Vancouver. Also Utrecht & Copenhagen. It's obviously far cheaper to improve cycling & walking than build underground systems but a well designed integrated bus network would work well, with trams where justified. Beats #HS2.
Can you name a few? I still think Birmingham is more like Detroit than anywhere else, and that the car “problems” are in the city’s DNA.https://twitter.com/HS2theTruth/status/993656549406101505 …

Cross-city rail from Four Oaks is convenient but suffers delays going via New Street & have to park on-street. Infrequent trains from further away require a change at New Street & parking at up to £14.50 is more expensive than train fare!

I have tried about 10 different ways of getting to QEH/University via train, bus & car. Car is quickest off-peak but twice it took well over an hour to get back to Spaghetti junction. I once saw a cyclist in Erdington that I finally overtook near Bassets Pole 5+ miles later.
