A large degree of “alt lite” and Douglas Murray-style anti-Islamism derives from a fear that the rise of Islamism in Europe will destroy the sexual dispensation established in the 1960s: pornography, gay acceptance, female promiscuity etc.
It is, in this sense, a defence of decadence and not rightist at all. Social democratic parties are the natural home for Europe’s growing Muslim population, and these parties were often socially conservative (think of Labour Party’s Methodism).

These groups, known as the “the Cathedral” in NRx parlance, represent a system (roughly since WWI, though the roots are deep) that is now in profound crisis. The “alt lite”, Douglas Murray, C. Hitchens etc, represent reactionary elements of the technocratic class.

That is to say, they believe in an eternal “summer of love” as occurred in the 1960s, even though that world is now long past. They haven’t even experienced the 1970s yet, nor the bitter knowledge of what the sexual revolution wrought.
