I understand that most people hate reading & have convinced themselves that people only read to portray themselves in a certain light etc- but they're usually delusional about the social capital of books- in normie reality, it's a liability- people think you're "judging them."

The same people believe that I have to use a thesaurus all the time- as if it's impossible to have a vocabulary from natural accumulation & use. This is also an impediment, because people get really mad if you use a word they don't know.

What about tact, though? Your vocabulary is effectively a display of power. The person who wields their vocabulary wildly in front of more modestly endowed or ‘normal’ people is not so different to the buffed gym goer who flexes their abs in front of everyone...

...or the amateur martial artist who challenges everyone to a fight. It’s bad form. And, in an age where literacy is set to become an ultra elite skill, it will become ever more akin to a display of power. “You talk like a book,” they say. Please stop dominating me, they mean.
