@ChrisNahr, you seem like a man with a clear-eyed take on the world. If you were learning a programming language from scratch this year—as a complete novice looking for the best pay & highest demand & durability—what language would it be?
Thanks, I referred to you because I don’t trust what journalists write about these things & you’re more likely to be cold about it. Are there any tricky or unpopular/unsexy languages that are nonetheless essential and therefore underserved?

Go looks like a hot contender. As for the others, well, C# is great if you’re into the Microsoft ecosystem. Otherwise I don’t currently spot any good candidates.
-
I read about Go from another source, thanks, that’s an interesting cross-reference. Final question, what method do you use to go about learning a language?
-
The official documentation, books, online tutorials. I don’t really understand this question. I just look up resources and learn the language.
-
That’s the approach I’d take. I was just checking to see if there were some methods or resources that were regarded as useless or laughable. As in, “lol. He thinks he’ll learn just reading a book or using online tutorials.”
