Is it too much to hope that it’s a direct Biblical reference, rather than the next stage in the evolution of those Harry Potter political metaphors?

I haven’t looked into the biblical background of Gilead, except to note that it was ruled by a judge (i.e. an authoritarian form of government). I still take the reference as biblical either way. Potter doesn’t include any explicit Christianity so far as I know, “Tale” does.
