This is not true. The right suffers far more than the left from censorship. It’s telling you have to go back to WWI era to find a censored socialist. Since 1945, if not earlier, the left has controlled the Western unis & media. Ask @charlesmurray about free speech difficulties.https://twitter.com/WillShetterly/status/1044272825648009217 …

I'm trying to point out to the censorial wing of the left that if they support censorship, they'll be among its victims. I agree the right sometimes suffers too, but historically, they've been the ones who promote it.

The left is always pro-censorship, from the French Revolution to the Bolsheviks to today’s identity left. The right stands for freedom. The left supports free speech to the extent it can be used to seize power, then it squashes the right absolutely.

The history of free speech is a history of the left, from Socrates to Voltaire to anyone who supports the ACLU. The history of censorship is a history of authoritarians, most of whom have been rightwingers.

Nah. The left demands equality, and since humans aren’t equal the left must censor absolutely to stop people pointing out the truth. Socrates was anti-democratic, so I don’t know why you think he was leftist. I don’t know about Voltaire. Legitimate authority supports liberty.

The left demands equal opportunity, which is possible if we share the resources. The right demands nepotism, favoritism, cronyism, and all the advantages the very rich have to control the rest of us.

I'll grant that Socrates was a quirky thinker who doesn't fit neatly in the right-left divide. You really ought to learn more about Voltaire if you care about free speech.

I don’t care for Voltaire, from what I’ve seen of his work he was overrated. Socrates was anti-democratic, and the left is, by definition, democratic. Therefore, Socrates was not on the left.
