This is not true. The right suffers far more than the left from censorship. It’s telling you have to go back to WWI era to find a censored socialist. Since 1945, if not earlier, the left has controlled the Western unis & media. Ask @charlesmurray about free speech difficulties.https://twitter.com/WillShetterly/status/1044272825648009217 …
The left is always pro-censorship, from the French Revolution to the Bolsheviks to today’s identity left. The right stands for freedom. The left supports free speech to the extent it can be used to seize power, then it squashes the right absolutely.

The freedom that the right stands for was the freedom to own slaves. Now it stands for the freedom to rent them.
-
The left merely changes private slavery of a sort that allows for a liberty-loving elite into an absolute slavery in obedience to the state. The left creates societies, such as the USSR, where no one is free and everyone is a slave.

Do you think Orwell wasn't a leftist? “Every line of serious work that I have written since 1936 has been written, directly or indirectly, against totalitarianism and for democratic socialism, as I understand it.” —George Orwell
-
Orwell was on the left initially. Then he realised it results in mass murder and doesn’t work. His later work is anti-socialist—officially he clung on to calling himself a leftist, but he was leaving the left as he died (see, cooperating with MI5 against commies).
-
Okay, your ideology is so profound you cannot even read what he said, or understand that his list was not of communists in general but of Stalinists in particular.
-
Stalinists put a stop to the leftward insanity spiral, as Cromwell did during the English Civil War, but he was still the left. Trotskyists are even more bloodthirsty than Stalinists, and they’re both bad—being leftists.
-
Yes, there are authoritarian leftists. Who denied that? Are you one of the ahistorical sorts who insist fascists are leftists?
-
The roots of fascism are the same as Bolshevism: populism. Fascism is a rightist attempt to use leftist methods to create a new hierarchy—ultimately this fails because it moves leftwards. It just works a little better than full on leftism.

The history of free speech is a history of the left, from Socrates to Voltaire to anyone who supports the ACLU. The history of censorship is a history of authoritarians, most of whom have been rightwingers.
-
Nah. The left demands equality, and since humans aren’t equal the left must censor absolutely to stop people pointing out the truth. Socrates was anti-democratic, so I don’t know why you think he was leftist. I don’t know about Voltaire. Legitimate authority supports liberty.
-
The left demands equal opportunity, which is possible if we share the resources. The right demands nepotism, favoritism, cronyism, and all the advantages the very rich have to control the rest of us.
-
The right demands that competent people should be allowed to be competent. The left represents an incapable section of the elite, the intellectuals, riling up other people to steal the competent people’s stuff and put the intellectuals in power.

Are you confusing the right and left with libertarians and authoritarians? Both of the latter exist in both of the former. George Orwell is a fine example of a free speech socialist.
-
Left=believe equality possible and social good Right= believe equality impossible and inequality a social good. Free speech is incompatible with socialism, because socialism fails & the socialists have to punish people who point this out. Orwell was wrong.
-
Okay, life's too short to argue with people who make up political definitions to favor their side. Good luck to you.
-
That’s why you’re on the left, because you’re not interested in truth or reality.
