1. HP Lovecraft & Me: I don’t care for HP Lovecraft, but he seems to dog me. I recently remembered that the first computer game magazine I ever owned, in about 1993 or 1994, had a feature on an RPG set in Lovecraft land—probably Miskatonic University.
2. I never really liked the feature, and I thought the whole game looked “weird”—though I read it many times. I did read Lovecraft later & one of my school friends liked him. Then, at university, a leftist I worked with, when I was on the left, was a fanatic about him.

3. I always liked Houellebecq as a teenager, and he’s a huge Lovecraft fan and has written about him. Then, last year, I took a photo of myself and it turned out, by accident, to be just like Lovecraft. Simultaneously, I started probing the outer right, who rather like HPL.

4. Somehow, I think I have an affinity with Lovecraft—although I still have no particular affection for his work. He keeps dogging me in odd ways. It doesn’t add up to much written down, but it feels more pervasive than it looks.
