      1. Lying in bed this morning, I realise the significance of the Zen injunction that “you already have everything you need.” What this refers to is nothing in the material sense, but rather the unity of your psyche—stronger in children—that can be recovered through meditation.

      2. We use our activities try to return us to this state through acquisition, but we always had it. We simply forgot.

Acid does the same thing (cheating I know).

      1. I don’t think it’s cheating, and I’ve considered taking it myself many times. I’ve read lots of accounts that confirm your experience that it achieves the same end as meditation. However, my reservation are: a. It is a relatively new drug (what does it really do?), &...

      2. b. I’ve seen a person who took it (even micro doses) become spaced out in a way similar to cannabis users, even when they had come down. They take it to get through their jobs. Further, they’re frightened the police will get them for using it. All this is absent in meditation.

My personal experience hasn’t had most of those things. The most productive period of my life started after I tried it the first time. And I don’t feel like doing it regularly. Would be interested to know your take if you do try it ever.

          1. I’m a great daydreamer & often have visual & auditory hallucinations (visions, perhaps). This makes me cautious with substances that could knock me out of consensus reality permanently, since my mind is susceptible. But I favour people experimenting with what works for them.

          2. If I do try, I will write about it. I’m generally suspicious of drugs bc I see the way people use drink, drugs, carbs, Netflix as means to repress or not deal with their feelings (“Get me through the day.”). I prefer confronting uncomfortable feelings.

          3. Indeed, I’ve done so in the past. I suspect the basic ego dissolution is the same on acid & meditation. But one difference is that meditation helps me to think, “There’s no gain or loss. There just ‘is’”. In this sense, the question of productivity seems irrelevant.

          4. But you’re right that drugs are an important part of things like productivity, either for repression or inspiration. Most civilisations are powered on coffee, tea, sugar, & booze (at minimum). These help us deal with the repression required to operate in civilisation.

I feel the same way on it. The world radiates with a lifeforce and everything is dancing, and to have that psychic union is to be dancing.
