1. I don’t know a great deal of Buddhism, except through Alan Watts & the Suzukis. I agree with your summary, prolonged meditation allows you to see that “I” is an illusion. People misidentify “I” with their thought process.

2. I don’t think Buddhism is sentimental. I believe sentimentality occurs in the gap between ideas and reality. A soppy greetings card that says “I wuv you” doesn’t capture the hate-love dynamic of most relationships and is sentimental. Sentimental people live in ideals & ideas..

3. ...but Buddhism (and most world religions, along with some psychotherapy) is about feeling real emotions or just reality, & not about imposing ideas of how things should be as the sentimentalist does.
