3. This may, MAY, be true in America where identity has always been conceptualised in a legalistic way (doubtful how far this stands up in a post-European America). But it certainly doesn’t apply so much in Europe, except—perhaps—in France with her strong civic nationalist trad.

4. The left is probably correct in thinking that civic nationalism leads into ethnic or racialised outlooks, and so they are right to be suspicious of Bannon. This is because there’s a link between ethnos and culture. (Where does the “civicness” come from?)

5. Trump’s agenda, as outlined in this interview, is so massive I wonder if two terms will be enough. And I wonder if Trump will pull a Putin, stepping back and pulling the strings of another candidate in the background.
