3. They’re not afraid to be “odd” and so survive. We see this in the Holocaust, Jewish people who left Nazi Germany immediately were sometimes mocked “it’ll all just blow over”. It takes very independently minded or eccentric people to break ranks in this way.

4. The people who are in trouble in a genocide are the middle class, bureaucratic types who are not indispensable and are also too pedestrian and status-minded in their thinking to get out when they can. They are also usually envied by the majority, and make for easy targets.
