1. Nationalists, neo-fascists, communists, & Islamist all underestimate how utterly appalling the English upper middle class is. It’s more lethal than any of these groups bc it has no romanticism. It’s not that it’s purposefully evil or has any wicked scheme. It’s just null.

2. They’re not ideologues for free trade or the nation. They certainly don’t care about “the flag” or “our girls” or God. They are complete self-interest machines, and there’s no romance to them. Just a maw that consumes with complete efficiency. Literally soulless.

3. Burroughs captures the spirit quite well with his man who turns into an arsehole—except there’s no intermediate stage with the English. They crush effectively because there’s no ideology there. They’re not even the corporate caracitures of a film like Avatar.

4. They’re not rubbing their hands with glee. It’s partly because they’re completely driven by their women, who are remarkably shallow and materialistic. This is what matriarchy looks like. Anyway, as stated before, it’s the cold ones you have to look out for.

I wish someone would write a set of detailed quasi-anthropological observations on the upper middle class like the ones Theodore Dalrymple (aka Dr Anthony Daniels) has written for the British underclass. Really eye-opening, that one. Do you know if any such exists?

I think there’s a humorous column in the Daily Telegraph that covers modern stereotypes & does a pretty good job—though maybe it’s discontinued. I suppose I could, since it’s my circle, but I’ve retired from sociability to rage like Heraclitus in the wilderness...out of touch.
