In the end, it’s not possible to moralise war anymore. Wars are like floods, earthquakes, and forest fires. They change the labels, but the labels don’t matter. “Communists”, “Nazis”, “Islamists”, etc. One war finishes and another starts up. You might as well protest the tide.

I wonder if “just war theory” is really just the post-facto justification. It doesn’t seem to factor in too much into wars. It assumes there is a moment of decision. But the decision is an illusion, nobody decides the tide.
