2. Generally, the techniques of Stoicism can be useful for dealing with emotional pain. I’d encourage people to use them. Accepting the situation, as Epictetus suggests here, is sensible. You have the father, mother, or brother you have, not the ideal you want. Work with that.
I think it’s still useful in CBT. You could just do Stoicism instead, but the point is very much “your meaningless life in an open plan call center with no prospects isn’t actually that bad, you just think it is.” This makes it, in the Marxist sense, false conciousness.

Part of the problem with implementing Stoicism in modernity is that science has popped even in the nature God of Stoicism. We understand nature, but we understand its unfathomable and chaotic nature. There’s little comfort there, unlike the comfort of the pagan seasons.

The stoics gazed at cosmic nature itself, and they realized that there IS order, and that's comforting enough for a bunch of nihilists.

Stoicism is born out of nihilism and fatalism after all, but they never advocated quietism, i wouldn't name Cato as the perfect embodiment of a slave morality.
