Also not to be missed is Hennisart on Algeria. Really, French at Dien Bien Phu had technological superiority only in the air (and three tanks mostly acting as line of site artillery.) Viets had clear superiority in terms of artillery, and parity in small arms quality.

Not read. “Only in the air”, the air being the most crucial sphere of operation in modern war. They also had electronic computer-guided artillery that was terrifically accurate. Fall discusses this at length. The air bridge was impressive though sporadic.

Wasn't crucial enough to win them the battle. Except for Desert Storm, I can't think of any wars won by air power over the last 60 years.
