I think so, I’ve read about it in a few histories. There really were true believers, or people who had dedicated their lives to building the USSR who couldn’t stand the system dying.

Those wouldn't be younger people committing suicide at the fall of Communism. It would have been some of the party leaders. Maybe. Most could have transitioned to capitalism and gamed the system using their power and influence, lioe when dictators rise to power. No need to die.
