2. It is true that ”youth rebellion” has become a product to be sold. This has been so for a long time. There is an orthodoxy around sex, drugs, and pop music. Young fogeydom is a reaction to this. But young people still have to rebel to separate from their parents.

3. People who do not separate from “mature” society as a teenage are creepy. They are also pseudo-mature. Maturity usually develops after making mistakes and being foolish. Being foolish seasons a person. You should be getting drunk and pulling pranks with your friends...

4. ...at that age. Sure, this can’t go too far. But the reason nobody liked William Hague was because he seemed too “perfect”...a teacher’s pet or suck up. Contrast this to Trump, who is still a “naughty” boy & loveable. Leadership & maturity requires roguishness.

5. Young fogeys deny themselves this, and consequently only appear mature. They put people off, being little more than copies of their parents. There’s something rigid and inhuman about them.
