Sacha Baron Cohen, Louis Theroux, & their lessor imitators specialise in taking advantage of natural hospitality, pliability, & willingness to be considerate to foreigners to create a parody of “weird” mid-America that is sold as propaganda to the Coasts & Euro middle class.

Although Guardian and New York Times readers would die of shame at the thought that they sneer at, say, Peruvians (only the working class mock foreigners) it’s exactly the same as the working class guy who says, “Stinks of curry here.”—except this is the middle class version.

As if urban populations don’t have “weird” customs—gay pride gets pretty wild. There’s mileage for a right-wing S.B. Cohen who gets liberals and urbanites to endorse Aztec child sacrifice as a measure against “white privilege”. Status conscious liberals would say anything.

It’s amazing how quickly “enlightened” people are willing to look so far down upon people based on the color of their skin, where they live and how they grew up. It’s almost as if there is a checkbox to offer help. If the boxes aren’t checked then feel the wrath of tolerance.

Does being 'considerate to foreigners' extend to the kids you took from their parents and put in cages?

What nonsense, Theroux in his weird weekends explicitly tells that he spends time with the outcasts and the marginal. That’s the entire premise to the documentaries. If you’re not smart enough to figure out that it’s not representing the population of the area, that’s your problem

This also happened after 9/11. Thousands of people in New York and DC were massacred; Americans in red states responded with an enormous outpouring of grief and solidarity. Coastals just spat on their sympathy and mocked them for gauche and/or tacky nationalism.
