“It is a vital concern of every State not only to vanquish nomadism but to control migrations and, more generally, to establish a zone of rights over an entire "exterior.”” —1000 Plateaus. A demonstration that the EU is not a state, and that Europe is, in a sense, stateless.

Can't really agree with that conclusion. Seems more likely that the EU and Europe are, in fact, so misgoverned that the most basic of state functions fail to be applied. This happened before to other states. Not so much stateless, but on the process of becoming stateless, maybe.

I think that in attempting something new, transnational governance (for want of a better word), the EU weakened the existing states while often not substituting anything for their functions. The EU is part utopian project, part instrument of US imperialism, & part ad hoc mess.

Agree on all counts. But you have to admit that the EU is a project of European governance no? It's just a really, really bad one that is in a straight path to disaster.

Yes, of course. I don’t think I suggested otherwise, although maybe I did. I don’t know if it’s a straight path for disaster. It’s in a lot of trouble, and I don’t think it will survive. Whether or not it’s a disaster is open at the moment.
